Reflection

What worked out well?

Having an idea worked out well first of all… I was totally clueless in the beginning and my first ideas were way to work intensive, and text heavy in my opinion. I would not have thought to end up doing a kids game, but to be honest? Why not! I enjoy drawing  in a cute style from time to time and to work with traditional media more than I used to. Mistakes don’t hold me back as much as they used to when it comes to drawing traditionally.

Where are the issues?

My time management is a big issue, also I really hope there will be no troubles regarding the printing.

Did I stay true to my original concept or do I had to adjust/change it?

Of course things needed to be adjusted. The first thought out concept was okay in theory but some aspects needed to be changed in the course of the game play. For example there is a set number of how many points you have to gather. (20, and 25 as fox.)

Some changes concerned the layout of certain things like the format of the the animal cards, which won’t be in portrait format anymore due to space issues.

The board game won’t be made out of retractable pieces anymore.

There will be only three main species. (Rat, Magpie, Fox)

You have “extra lifes” as an animal and won’t die right away at first.

Are you behind your personal time schedule?

Yea, I think so, generally have been slower when it comes to working on the project. Mainly because I am bad at planning and good at avoiding it.

Now I am working with Trello and I think that is somewhat helping…

What are your next steps?

  • Settle the layouts for the cards
  • Make more patterns
  • Illustrations!
  • Do the Food card texts
  • Make the playing figures and colour them
  • etc.
